Maintaining your Canterbury & keeping it comfortable

Care and maintenance advice for your Canterbury sofa.

The Canterbury features seats with a foam core interior, wrapped in a thick layer of super soft Dacron fibre. The layer of foam is super resilient, giving the cushions a firmness at the centre, with the Dacron wrap providing a pillowy softness that results in an amazingly comfortable sit. Over time, with normal use, this layer of fibre can start to mat together, and your seats will begin to look flat - which, in turn, will make the fabric covers look loose.

The Canterbury is a medium maintenance level sofa, which means it will take a little bit of care to avoid the above, and keep your cushions looking full, and feeling cosy.

Daily plumping is the best way to combat any flattening of the fibre layer. The Canterbury has removable seat cushions so you can take them off and shake them out at the end of each day. You need to encourage the fibre inside to spread evenly throughout the cushion, moving it from the back where it commonly gathers, down to the front edge. If this is carried out regularly, the fibres inside won’t have the chance to mat together and your seats will hold their shape well.

Available with a choice of full back (filled with fibre) or feather filled scatter cushions, you can use this same plumping technique on all of your cushions.

Once you’ve finished plumping, the final step is to smooth the fabric covers using the method below, so your Canterbury will look as good as new. We like to call this the Union Jack method, as it follows the stripes of the Great British flag.

- Using clean, dry hands, begin by smoothing your cushions from the centre to the outside following a horizontal, and then a vertical line.

- Then, start at the centre again and smooth diagonally out to each corner. Smooth the fabric right to the edges and tuck down the sides and back.

As with all sofas, we recommend that you use your Canterbury as evenly as possible to avoid greater wear and tear on your favourite seat.
