Pigmented leather is the mostly highly treated - and therefore highly durable leather variety that we offer. During processing, the hides are buffed, helping to reduce scars and veining or branding. The leather is then coated with a colour pigment before the grain pattern is embossed into it.

This makes the finished leather highly durable, more consistent, blemish free and easy to maintain. Pigmented leather is both very hard wearing and more resistant to fading and scratching. Because of the high level of protection, this type of leather can be wiped with a damp cloth to help keep it clean.

As with all types of leather, we only recommend use of the approved cleaning products in our care kits to remove any stains. Always apply the conditioner from the care kit at least twice a year in order to prevent the leather from drying out or cracking.

Whilst it’s not as soft to the touch as aniline, semi-aniline, pull-up or oiled leathers, the embossed finish removes the natural markings, giving it a uniform finish. Pigmented leather is not as good at controlling temperatures in summer and winter as some of the alternative leather options.

Although this is a durable option that’s great for busy households, you may want to consider Sofashield is selected for peace of mind.

Important tip: To avoid water marks after cleaning we advise that you dampen a colourfast cloth with boiled water from a kettle and gently wipe the entire panel or cushion from seam to seam. This will help to prevent any water stains as the leather dries.
